Freelance Writing: The Top Ten Writing Time-savers

Comments · 475 Views

Freelancers know that time is money. The more efficient your writing process, the more time you will save and the more money that you'll make.

Since almost 30 years, I have been a freelancer. These are my top ten time-savers for writing:

  1. Mind Maps - For everything

Mind maps help me write and create time to write. They are useful for brainstorming, planning, structuring documents, thetechtrending.com and research.

While I love computer-based mind mapping (I use NovaMind on my Mac at the moment), I also like to create mind maps using sticky notes and poster-board.

  1. Write-think - www.thetechmagazines.com Write but don't think (DDT).

DDT, which stands for Do, Don’t Think, is my favorite acronym. It’s because I used over-analyze. It was much easier to just write down my thoughts years ago. I write down a question, either on paper or on the computer screen. It's amazing how many solutions I find just by writing.

  1. Writing www.thetechiefinds.com timed

Many of my writing sessions are timed. It allows me to do more and write more. I write for 10 or 15 minutes at a time. A time limit is a way to make sure I produce. I don't check my email or look out the window.

  1. Blog for easy theviraltopics.com marketing

Market your writing to get work. If you are looking for freelance writing gigs, it is important to pitch stories and make proposals to agencies and companies.

Blogs can cut down on the marketing strategy you need. In fact, I find that I am able to write commissions without having to pitch stories or send out proposals. It takes time to blog. A blog can be online for many years, and it will continue to market and sell for you.

  1. Schedules trendingwithmedia.com

It doesn't matter if you don't plan it. This applies to everything, from a magazine article to a haircut. Your schedule is your best friend.

  1. After the first draft is complete, you can start researching.

On many projects, I research AFTER I do a quick draft. This helps me stay focused on the story that I am writing. Only those people are I allowed to interview.

  1. Write about healthbuzzusa.com what you're learning

Writing requires that you do your homework and are always learning. Writing about your passions, current life and any other learning can help you save time. When my children were young, I used to write for parenting magazines. Because I am always learning new things about computers and the Web, I continue to write for tech magazines.

  1. Websites -- Easy marketing again

A web site can do your marketing for your company and save you time by pointing people to your online portfolio.

  1. Setting goals

Have goals? You should set goals frequently and review them regularly. You can set goals for the week and month, as well as for the year. You can set goals but you cannot do them. Every goal must have tasks that lead to achievement.

  1. Set financial goals healthmagazineus.com

What is your goal in a freelance career? You should set monetary goals. Setting monetary goals will reduce decision-making because you won’t be writing for markets that don’t pay enough to you to reach your goals.
